Community
Outreach

The
Greater Washington, DC chapter of ISES is proud to be
active in our community. Over the years, our members
have participated in many philanthropic activities,
like Race for the Cure, WETA Phonathon, and the Gift
Drive for DC Foster Kids (toy collection during the
holidays for local underprivileged children).
During
the 2003-2004 program year, our chapter selected the
National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship [NFTE]
and the DC Foster Kids agency as its Charity Partners.
Through proceeds raised at our annual Capital Awards
Gala and many gifts collected during the December holidays,
our chapter was able to contribute substantial funds
to these well-deserving organizations.
More
information on these organizations is listed below.
Gift
Drive For DC Foster Kids
Gift Drive For DC Foster Kids is an annual gift-giving
event that the ISES DC chapter hosts to make the holidays
a truly special time for approximately 100 local foster
children. It is a wonderful cause, for what we give
these children is all that they will receive for the
holidays.
This 2004
holiday season, ISES DC brought joy and more than 500
Christmas gifts to local foster children in Washington,
DC. An annual event, children were 'adopted' by our
members who purchased three (3) gifts from the child's
'wish list'; other members generously donated too. New,
unwrapped gifts, such as games, baby dolls, CD players,
books, and even winter coats, sweaters and shoes, were
delivered to the DC Family Services Agency last Wednesday
morning by Marty Janis of Atlantic Services Group, Dale
Harmon of Plants-Alive! and Helen "Dubey"
Dubaich, CSEP of Capital Events. The gifts were then
distributed to the children at a weekend holiday party,
shared with their birth and foster parents. According
to Marty Janis, “We at ISES DC make a huge difference
[to these children]. We bring Christmas and a lot of
happiness to them.”
